PROGRAM IMPACT

April-June 2010

  • Initiation of 714 jobs, $3,085,018 in exports, $3,178,018 in revenues, and $3,000,000 in Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) through the outsourcing/shared services sector
  • Launch of an International Association of Outsourcing Professionals (IAOP) chapter through Intaj, the second such chapter in the Middle East. This will link Jordanian outsourcing professionals to a worldwide network of peers, thereby providing opportunities for the exchange of ideas while at the same time increasing Jordan's visibility as an outsourcing destination
  • Publication of a sector profile for the Outsourcing/Shared Services sector, which was distributed for the first time at the 2nd Arab Outsourcing Event in Dubai-UAE, and NASSCOM in Bangalore-India
  • Initiation of $1,588,615 in exports and $1,763,080 in sector revenues through work with Contract Research Organizations
  • Initiation of $10,240, 113 in exports and $25,423,729 in revenues in the Architecture and Engineering sector
  • Initiation of 1,352 jobs and more than $44,592,799 in revenues, and $14,986,885 in exports through Medical Services Sector
  • Creation of 84 direct jobs, 286 indirect jobs and more than $634,082 in economic impact through the EAM Maliban Satellite Factory
  • Generation of more than 100 direct jobs, 340 indirect jobs, and $282,500 in revenues through the Kinanah Herbs Project
  • Generation of revenue increases of more than 31% ($120,000), increase in profits of 86%, and increase in female employment of more than 75% at the ADER Jameed Factory near Karak
  • Generation of 375 direct jobs and 1,277 indirect jobs through through the Jordan Job Fair Training Expo
  • Creation of 330 jobs and more than $122,535 in revenue through the Pomegranate project
  • Creation of more than $1,164,082 in revenue through an Apricot farm's application of the Program's product map recommendations in Mafraq
  • Creation of 429 jobs in the Energy Water and Environment/Cleacn Technology sector
  • Achievements of Certified Energy Manager (CEM) status by 34 Jordanian engineers through cooperation by the USAID Jordan Economic Development Program with the Association of Energy engineers
  • Creation of a financial analysis and impact model for the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, which will allow the MEMR to assess the economic impact of potential renewable energy policy decisions on the Jordanian economy
  • Completion of a communications audit for the American Chamber of Commerce in Jordan, which initiated an increase in membership as well as enhanced the organizations ability to communicate with its members

January-April 2010

  • Reduction of the minimum capital required to register a new firm from JOD 30,000 to 1,000. Since the reduction, over 2000 new companies were registered, creating some 6,200 jobs
  • Within the Heritage Foundation Economic Freedom index, Jordan’s trade freedom score rose to 78.8 in 2010
  • Revenue in the Outsourced and Shared Services sector (commonly called BPO) tripled since 2006
  • Jordan’s rank on the Global Location Services index went from “not listed” in 2004 to 9th globally in 2009
  • 5 private hospitals earned international accreditation and the Jordan Nursing Council was accredited by a US accrediting body – both contributing to the 10% increase in revenues from medical tourism
  • While exports in general fell about 20 percent in 2009 because of the global economic downturn, in SABEQ’s targeted sectors exports increased – including 20 percent in outsources services
  • Support to the new Development Zones Commission as an autonomous single body regulating zone operations. The support resulted in the declaration of three new Development Zones (Ma’an, Dead Sea and Ajloun) and the ability of the DZC to secure two Master Developers and US$350 million in development contracts
